Making difficult decisions easier
We recognize that the time comes when families need to make a major decision regarding the long-term care of their loved one.
We know that this can be a very difficult decision, and at Castleview we will endeavour to make this decision easier for you. At Castleview, we strive to provide the highest quality care for all our resident’s.
We hope that the following information may assist you in making a choice of where your relative may live happily.
Choice of home
We recognise that every prospective resident should have the opportunity to choose a home which suits their needs and abilities. To facilitate that choice and to ensure that our residents know precisely what services we offer, we will do the following:
- Provide detailed information on the home by publishing a statement of purpose and a detailed resident guide.
- Every prospective resident will have their needs expertly assessed before taking a decision to live in Castleview.
- Each resident will be given a contract or a statement of terms and conditions.
- Prospective residents will have the opportunity to visit, have tea and overnight stays, prior to moving into Castleview.
- Some of our residents families who have had to make the same difficult decision, are willing to discuss their experience with you. You may find that sharing this information is helpful and reassuring
Personal and Health Care
We use expert professional guidelines in pursuit of the best possible care.
We will do the following:
- Develop and implement a plan of care with each resident, based on an initial and then continuing assessment, which is regularly updated.
- Meet with appropriate professionals when necessary in ensuring we meet the health care needs of each resident.
- Establish and carry out careful procedures for the administration of residents’ medicines.
- Take steps to safeguard residents’ privacy and dignity in all aspects of the delivery of health and personal care.
- Treat with special care and dignity, residents who are approaching the end of their life. Sensitively assist their relatives at the time of death.
Lifestyle
It is clear that residents will need care and help in some aspects of their lives. To respond to the variety of needs and wishes of residents, we will do the following:
- Aim to provide a lifestyle for residents which satisfy their social, cultural, religious and recreational interests and needs.
- Help residents to exercise choice and control over their lives.
- Provide meals which constitute a wholesome, appealing and balanced diet in a home like environment.
The Environment
The physical environment of the home is designed for residents’ comfort and convenience. In particular, we will do the following:
- Provide individual accommodation which meets the National Minimum Standards.
- See that residents have well decorated, safe and comfortable bedrooms, with their own possessions around them where appropriate.
- Make detailed arrangements for the communal areas of the home to be safe and comfortable.
- Supply toilet, washing and bathing facilities suitable for the individual needs of each resident.
- Arrange for specialist equipment to be available to maximise residents’ independence.
- Maintain the buildings and grounds in a safe condit ion.
- Ensure that the premises are kept clean and hygienic with systems and procedures in place to minimize and control the spread of infection.
